Johor is known for its multi-cultural and have become one of the uniqueness that draw attention people’s attentions from many different country. This is mainly due Malays, Chinese and Indian cultural influences made their mark when trade began with those countries, and increased with immigration to Malaysia. The many different ethnicities that currently exist in Malaysia have their own unique and distinctive cultural identities, with some crossover. Time has passed and it’ll never stop; history for us, it has passed and it’s nothing for us to deal with it. The only thing we can do is to protect the heritages that are left by our great-grandfather, which we commonly call it as ‘The Living History’. The so-called ‘Living History’ can be in much form like buildings, artwork, graphics, and etc. Due to the different cultural and each have their own unique, ‘The Living History’ can looks totally different. Building is a typical example. However, this living history has now been the slaughtered lamb in exchange for ‘better future’. Here’s a question raised, is it worth to sacrifice the living history for urbanization to be successfully achieved?
Hence, the main task assigned is to present the differences between different races in terms of design culture as well as showcases the chemical reactions when clashing and intersecting happens amongst them. The following articles will each describe how the different cultures shape their artworks and the characteristic shown. The entrance of the different cultures to enter Malaysia and how they give impacts to Malaysian’s culture will be much emphasize. As known, research, analysis, site visit and interview will be done to fulfill the stated task.
The journal will draw attentions from readers. For readers who live in JB will know more about the history and culture of their homeland and appreciate them much; for readers who aren’t Johorean, they will find how amazing Johor is and maybe head for Johor and have their eyes opened. Besides, sense patriotism will be raised among readers as they found themselves being around the ‘Living History’. Last but not least, it is not an excuse for a nation to destroy the cultural heritage just for the sake of ‘urbanization.
